We recommend this excursion to the Shimba Hills National Reserve for safari newbies and everyone who wants to do a nice walk into nature.
First impressions of the wildlife, combined with great views over the coast and into the hinterland as well as a hike with bath under the waterfall round off the tour.

Day 1: Shimba Hills National Reserve
At 7 am, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Diani and drive directly via Kwale to Shimba Hills National Reserve (approximately 1 hour drive). You will notice that it is still pleasantly fresh in the forest – a good time to discover elephants, giraffes, warthogs, buffaloes and sable antelopes (they only occur here in Kenya) on a first game drive.
If you want to do the hike, start your walk (2 km) from the car park at the viewpoint at 10 am down to the waterfall, accompanied by an armed ranger. You will see different forms of vegetation, trees and plants. When you arrive at the waterfall, you will have time for a refreshing bath and a few photos before you return uphill the same way. Don’t forget to carry enough drinking water as it is mostly quite hot.
Back at the vehicle, game drive en-route to Shimba Hills Green Lodge for lunch. The lodge offers a amazing view from the cliff over the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary and far to the west.
After lunch, you might want to go for another game drive at the national reserve.
Latest by 5 pm, you will drive back to Diani and be dropped off at your accommodation, where you will say goodbye to your driver.
